Trainers

DarbyTech trainers are designed to demonstrate industry-typical chemical processes as well as the associated process control methodologies. Each trainer is fully instrumented and automated using industry-typical Distributed Control (DCS) or Programmable Logic (PLC) control systems. The trainer systems use REAL chemical and physical processes on a training-appropriate scale to train students in both process operations and control.

Binary Distillation Trainer

Distillation and fractionation operations are found throughout the petroleum, petrochemical and numerous other industries. The separation of liquid mixtures and recovery of the components typically involves the distillation process. Steady-state operating conditions can be achieved within 20 minutes. Students will be able to operate and perform experiments on a distillation system to separate a mixture of methanol and water into nearly pure methanol and water products, learning the fundamental principles of distillation operation.

Bioethanol Process Trainer

The Bioethanol Process Trainer is a pilot-scale plant that demonstrates batch fermentation and continuous distillation of a suitable feedstock into fuel-grade ethanol (in this case, white sugar). The produced ethanol is denatured by a process that renders it unsuitable for human consumption as per any local regulations regarding Completely Denatured Alcohol. This trainer is available as a basic model for chemical conversion using a refined sugar feedstock solution and ethanol separation by an integrated binary distillation system.

3 Phase Separator Trainer
100:3PST

The 3 Phase Separator is a large process trainer designed for education and research application associated with the separation of oil, water and gas from a simulated crude oil stream.

The primary separation operation for crude oil occurs when the crude stream flows through a vessel of sufficient capacity to allow gravitational separation of the gas, liquid hydrocarbon and water phases. The process trainer blends air, water and refined oil to emulate a crude oil stream. This fluid mixture then flows into a horizontal separator vessel, fabricated from clear PVC, allowing trainees to observe the separation process.

Custom design: The process skid is mounted on a steel structure/skid and can be manufactured in 3 parts for ease of transport.
